[Audio] Gil Scott-Heron – I’m New Here {Preview}
Gil Scott-Heron, perhaps the most influential American poet of the past four decades, last released an album in 1994, Spirits. Since then he has spent more of the past 16 years behind bars than making music. It was on Rikers Island – where he was serving time for cocaine possession, a victim of his own addictions, just like those laid bare on his anthems “The Bottle” and “Home is Where the Hatred is”. Despite his absence from record studios in recent decades, and problems with drug addiction, what I’ve heard this record sounds fiercely alive, covering many issues and music styles. Check out the website in question here. As the site says, I’m New Here is due out February 8th UK/9th US on XL Recordings, and is a collection of tracks Gil Scott-Heron has been working on for the past couple of years.
Below the new single “Me And The Devil” out February 22nd. AMAZING!! track, video is dope too. Enjoi.
