[Visual] Roots Manuva @ Red Bull Music Academy

Roots Manuva

There are not many artists to have survived the UK hip hop apocalypse and not have had their heads turned by that pervasive grime itch. There are even fewer to have continued and retained their credibility and their passion for the essence of the sound that shaped them. Rodney Hylton Smith continues to sit apart from a music scene that would have him pulled in many directions but his own. His eclectic, down-to-earth style, has led the Times to call him “the voice of urban Britain”, won him a Mercury Music Prize nomination and a MOBO award.

Roots Manuva’s is a familiar voice to many a music lover, but we wanted to hear it again in the Academy lecture room. His dulcet tones proved just as informative out of rhyme as in. Watch the full lecture here.
