Stephen Wiltshire - Cityscapes From Memory

i remember seeing this dude on a documentary a while back; can remember being suprised by his talents but i obviously didn’t take a serious look @ his work because i’m now amazed. Stephen Wiltshire draws and paints detailed cityscapes; he draws lifelike, accurate representations of cities, having sometimes only observed them briefly.

born on 24th April, 1974, Stephen was a mute as a child, and did not relate well to other people. then at the age of three, he was diagnosed as autistic. he had no language and lived entirely in his own world. at the age of five, Stephen was sent to Queensmill School in London, where it was noticed that the only pastime he enjoyed was drawing. it soon became apparent he communicated with the world through the language of drawing; first animals, then London buses, and finally buildings.

here is immeasurable, natural innate artistry. i can’t look at a number & know for sure i’ve memorised it without a couple of takes; forget a city. dude is a beast, full stop.  his work is popular all over the world, and is held in a number of important collections.

Aphex Twin

Richard D. James revealed that he has “six albums completed” in an interview with style magazine AnOther Man. When asked about new material James responded -

I’ve got six completed. Two are very non-commercial, abstract, modular-synthesis, field recordings – those I finished four years ago. Another one is Melodies From Mars, which I redid about three years ago. There’s one of stuff I won’t go into; a comp of old tracks which is never really finished and always changing; and then one I’m working on now. There are also loads of tracks which don’t belong anywhere.

James’s last studio album was 2001′s Drukqs. Since then, the only formal signs of life were a remix comp, a collection of EPs, and a music video – years late – for the 1999 track Nannou. In 2009, Warp Records boss Steve Beckett told BBC 6 Music a new Aphex Twin record would “hopefully” be put out by the end of that year. Eighteen months later, there’s still nothing on the calendar.

Elsewhere in the interview, James described music as “adding flavours into the earth-mix which were not there before” and “favourite noises” these days are “wind” and “mine shafts when you chuck rocks down them”.
